After the offerings (and in High Masses, the incensation), the celebrant goes to the right side of the altar, where the server pours water over his fingers to wash them. During the washing, the celebrant recites verses (6-12) from Psalm 25:
Pes meus stetit in directo: in ecclesiis benedicam te, Domine.
Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto,
Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
I will wash my hands among the innocent: and will encompass your altar, O Lord.
That I may hear the voice of your praise, and tell of all your wondrous works.
I have loved, O Lord, the beauty of your house, and the place where your glory dwells.
Take not away my soul, O God, with the wicked, nor my life with men of blood.
In whose hands are iniquities: their right hand is filled with gifts.
But as for me, I have walked in my innocence: redeem me, and have mercy on me.
My foot has stood in the direct way: in the churches I will bless you, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
At Masses for the dead, and at Masses of the Season in Passiontide, the Gloria Patri is omitted.
The celebrant dries his hands with a cloth the server provides him.
Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity
The celebrant returns to the middle of the altar, bows low, and prays:
Amen.
Receive, O Holy Trinity, this oblation which we make to you in remembrance of the Passion, Resurrection and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in honor of blessed Mary ever Virgin, of blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, of these (the martyrs whose relics are contained in the altar stone) and of all the saints, that it may avail to their honor and our salvation: and that they may vouchsafe to intercede for us in heaven, whose memory we now keep on earth. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
