EUCHARISTIC LITURGY – Canon: Plea for Acceptance

The first prayer after the Sanctus is an offering of the gifts in the suppliant form of a plea for gracious acceptance.

The celebrant bows low, kisses the altar, and asks God through Jesus Christ to accept our offerings, making over them three signs of the cross:

Te igitur, clementissime Pater, per Jesum Christum Filium tuum Dominum nostrum, supplices rogamus, ac petimus, uti accepta habeas, et benedicas, haec dona, haec munera, haec sancta sacrificia illibata.

We therefore humbly pray and beseech you, O most merciful Father, through Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord, that you would vouchsafe to receive and bless these gifts, these offerings, these holy and unblemished sacrifices.
