EUCHARISTIC LITURGY – Canon: Consecration of the Bread

The celebrant, beginning the account of institution, picks up the host, blesses it, and prays:

Who the day before he suffered took bread into his holy and venerable hands, and with his eyes lifted up to heaven, to you, God, his almighty Father, giving thanks to you, he blessed , broke and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat this all of you, for this is my Body.

The celebrant then genuflects, reverencing the consecrated host. (The server rings the bell.)

The celebrant holds the consecrated host high enough so that the congregation behind him can see and reverence it as well. (The server again rings the bell.)

The celebrant then places the consecrated host on the altar and again reverences it by genuflecting. (The server rings the bell a third time.)
